Edgewood

The Town of Edgewood is one of New Mexico’s newest incorporated communities; it has only officially been in existence since 1999. Edgewood is the geographic hub and largest community in the East Mountain region. Interesting fact, it is also at the mid-point of Historic Route 66 in New Mexico (the entire Mother Road runs from Chicago to Los Angeles).

As the Town’s name implies, Edgewood is located at the edge of the woods in the Sandia Mountain foothills. Edgewood is literally “where the mountains meet the plains” and is located 20 miles east of Albuquerque along Historic Route 66 and Interstate 40, at the crossroads with NM State Road 344.

The town encompasses approximately 44 square miles of property located in southern Santa Fe, eastern Bernalillo, and northwestern Torrance Counties. The Town’s commercial district includes a number of service stations, two supermarkets, three pharmacies/drug stores, several restaurants, and a variety of retail, and professional services operations. A new Walmart Super Center opened in March 2008 and Tractor Supply in 2012.

Edgewood provides an exciting environment in which to live, work, or own a business. With a growing economy and regional population, and strong transportation infrastructure. Edgewood provides convenient access to the Albuquerque market as well as those of Santa Fe, Moriarty, Estancia, and Mountainair.

Area attractions include Wildlife West Nature Park, a rescued-wildlife refuge, state-of-art native wildlife zoo, and entertainment venue, home to events such as the Wind Festival (May), Wildlife Festival (June), Music Festival (July) and Harvest Festival (September), plus a series of Chuckwagon Suppers throuhgout the summer season.  The Single Action Shooting Society‘s Founders’ Ranch is home to “End of Trail” the annual World Championships of Cowboy Action Shooting each June, as well as several major events throughout the year — all celebrate western heritage and the heyday of the Old West.

It’s a growing town that preserves and applauds its small town heritage. Each year the town celebrates it’s heritage with the Route 66 Run, Rally, and Rock event, held in the heart of Edgewood. The equestrian community has worked long and hard to help establish a series of outstanding trails for horseback riding in the Edgewood area. Cross country skiers and snowshoe enthusiasts find plenty to do in the wide open spaces in and around Edgewood. There is plenty of fun for geocaching enthusiasts, as well as cyclist and mountain bikers, and golfers will enjoy the course at nearby Paa-ko Ridge.
