The East Mountains was home to ancient puebloan peoples and later to farmers and ranchers. This region is known for some of New Mexico’s early Route 66 lore and had an important place as part of the original air mail route across the U.S. Our region will share its authentic history with you — we value preserving the past as it really was – nothing glitzy or glamourous here. Learn more about our region’s history at the local destinations and resources below:
While we’re proud of our past, our story doesn’t end there. Our local businesses and residents continue making new history too. We’re home to an award-winning brewery (Sierra Blanca Brewing), hometown hero 2018 Supercross champion Jason Anderson (“El Hombre”), and many local volunteers who safeguard native New Mexico wildlife and rescue horses.
