The East Mountains will beckon you enjoy our spectacular outdoors. Whether it’s to appreciate nature’s beauty or to indulge in outdoor activities there is something fun and new with every season.
NATURE and TRAILS Wide open spaces and a variety of trails are offer an abundance of settings for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding (hitching posts can still be found at a number of businesses). In the winter months, many of the trails make for good cross-country skiing too. Wildlife West Nature Park offers an easy way to get up close and learn about New Mexico wildlife, and flora and fauna.
GOLF Paako Ridge Golf Club is New Mexico’s #1 rated course. Beautiful course in a setting that is truly unmatched. Clubhouse has pro shop and dining options.
EQUESTRIAN Horse events from rodeo to gymkhana are held at facilities in the East Mountains. A public use arena is available at Edgewood Equestrian Center, and larger events are held at the Cyclone Center in Stanley or Moriarty Rodeo Grounds. Those seeking occasional horseback riding experiences can contact Blue Barn Stables or Equitrek for services.
SNOW SKIING & BOARDING The Sandia Peak Ski Area offers a nearby option during the winter months for snowboarders and skiers, operating Fridays-Sundays. Lessons and rental equipment available.
MOTOCROSS Enthusiasts of all ages can ride one of several tracks at Moriarty Motocross, where Edgewood native and 2018 Monster Energy Supercross Champion Jason Anderson (“El Hombre”) has been known to make appearances,
GLIDERS If soaring silently above the beautiful New Mexico landscape is your idea of heaven, then you’ll want to know that dream can come true in the Soaring Capitol of the Southwest. Seek out services at the Moriarty Airport.
YOUTH ACTIVITIES Offered by community recreation programs and community organizations, there are a variety of activities for East Mountain children and teens: soccer, baseball, basketball, martial arts, dance, music, 4H, scouts, and shooting sports.
