You may be surprised to learn that Moriarty, New Mexico, is home to the third busiest airport in the state. But that doesn’t mean our skies are full of jets. No, far from it. In fact, glider pilots from all over the country come here to experience the thrill of soaring in silence in our expansive New Mexico skies.
The U.S. Southwest Soaring Museum, one of just two such museums in the country, it’s the perfect place to begin your experience with two feet planted on terra firma. Wander the impressive collection of glider planes, sailplanes, and related aircraft. Learn about the the history of gliding and soaring in the Western United States and the pilots who made it happen. Museum docents provide wonderful insights and share stories, so don’t hesitate to ask!
